Honda Officially Release 2008 Accord Information in the US

It's official. The new Accord has broken cover in the US, and this is virtually identical to the model that will roll off the Thai production lines in a few months time. Rather than comment too much on this, I'll just post up some images, and the details from the press release, and leave you to draw your own conclusions. But I will say this, I'd rather a Civic, or a Camry, or a current generation Accord. This looks more like Hyundai than Honda.

Remember that this press release is related to the US market, and the Thai version will also have a 2.0 4-pot engine option at the low end, and although it is possible that we will see a 3.5 V6 here to rival the Camry, it is more likely that the 3.0 V6 will be retained, to avoid the high tax that forces the Camry 3.5 price beyond reason.

Images surface of 2008 Accord

Honda have been doing a great job keeping the lid on any and all information relating to the 2008 Honda Accord. We do know that it will be coming to Thailand in time for the Motor Expo in November. Anyway, finally some photos of the Accord are starting to surface on the web and we have some idea of the style of the interior.

If you like the Civic interior and were hoping Honda would go down that route for the Accord then you are going to be a little disappointed. Even though the steering wheel, borrows heavily from the design style of the Civic, the Accord aims at a more "serious" market and this means that a more conservative approach has been maintained, in order to avoid putting people off.

I would argue that Honda have probably gone as far as they can go in one step, without alienating their current customer base.

Honda to double Thai production capacity with second plant

Honda has announced the investment of THB 6.2 billion in a second manufacturing plant in Thailand. This represents Hondas largest single investment in Thailand to date, and will double the companies production operations here to 240,000 units per year.

The plant will be built at the existing Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (HATC) facility in Ayutthya, making it the largest passenger car production facility of any international manufacturer in the ASEAN region.

Honda tweak City ZX... slightly

The Honda City, and its hatchback sibling, the Jazz, are running out of steam. Fresher models from Toyota and even Chevrolet are stunting Honda sales in the sub-compact market. With the recent appearance of the brand new Toyota Vios, it is not surprising to see Honda beef up the City ZX in an effort to stay competitive.

But this is the second round of minor changes for the City, and a brand new model should be on the market sometime in 2008. Is this City ZX worth a look?

Sales promotions from Honda aimed at keeping rivals in check

Honda have been experiencing a revival of sorts in Thailand, with 2006 seeing the company gain significant market share. The Honda Civic has been central to this, and is continuing to sell well. The Civic has the advantage of being a generation ahead of its rivals, and is technologically and visually ahead of the pack.

The CR-V is also selling well, despite being the ugliest SUV on the market, but it will see fresh competition from the Chevrolet Captiva which will be unveiled at the Bangkok International Motor Show at the end of the month.

How important is safety to you? - Small cars

Over the next few weeks I plan to post a series of short articles focusing on safety. We'll take a look at groups of cars that are available on the Thai market. This time we'll have a look at the budget market.

Cheap and cheerful though they might be, are budget cars going to end up costing you an arm and a leg if you have an accident? Is there really much difference between the safety of a Yaris and Jazz? Let's try to find out.

Honda achieved 14% growth in 2006

Civic

Honda announced the sales target of 70,000 units in 2007 after achieving 66,000 units in 2006 (increase of 14% from the previous year). 26,000 units of Civic has been sold so far this year. Honda is expecting fierce competition this year due to launch of new cars being lined up by different manufacturers, and is planning to respond with 145 Honda dealers throughout Thailand.

New 2007 Honda Stream

Hi all,

I love this site. I have been reading it for quite some time now. Does anyone know when the new Honda Stream will be coming out? It looks so much better than the Wish.

I want a MPV but need one by June this year (2007). Do you guys think it will be out by then? Does anyone have some inside info?

Cheers!

New Year Revelations - Forecast for 2007

Captiva Small

As 2006 draws to a close many people seem interested in reviewing the year that was, but bkkAtuos.com would rather look to the future. Before we get into our 2007 forecast, be aware that these are our predictions and might not be entirely accurate.

Although we can't guarantee anything, the information in this preview might be of some use in identifying models that are approaching end of life.

So without further ado, let's get back to the future and see what 2007 (2550) will bring.

This Honda Accord was one of the many vehicles on display at the PTT stand to promote conversion to NGV.

CR-V is very unsightly. Cutaway version is very neat, and shows off the car's design well. Just a shame its (sorry) so ugly.

Honda's 2007 CR-V interior is nicer than exterior, but a little more conservative than cool Civic. Some Civic characteristics are shared however, including some of the trim, and that flat floor in the back.

CR-V shares the Civic platform.

Honda's pretties looks as uninspired as everyone else. Honda CR-V is so ugly it wouldn't look out of place over at the Ssangyong display.

Engine sits low due to Civic platform, good for center of gravity.

Pimped out Civic looks and sounds impressive, but is it really worth sacrificing 80% of the luggage space for this? Some of the custom work at the show was very impressive though, if that's your thing.
