2012 Toyota Camry Pictures

Photos of the 2012 Toyota Camry were leaked a few weeks ago, but those were of the North American version. Now we have images of the model that interests us, the one that is a much closer match for the Thai market version.

So what can be said about the new 2012 Toyota Camry? Well, I think it's fair to say that the overall look of the car is okay. Although everything has changed and this is an all-new car, it retains a familiarity that is somehow comforting.

The front headlamps share some similarity with those of its little brother, the Altis. Between the headlamps is a large grille, and somehow that reminds me of the Nissan Teana. Sure, it is not exactly the same, but it is a similar shape, and style. When viewed from the front corner, the back third of the car and in particular the C pillar are very similar to the current Camry.

The current Camry is nothing to write home about. In fact, I would say it is a dull car. But in a strange sort of what it has an appeal for that very reason. I believe that Toyota is wise to keep things low key for the new model. There are some interesting lines, particularly on the front wings, and there is a strong crease-line running the length of the car. But overall things are still pretty subdued and uninspiring. There is no question then, this is a Camry.

Inside the cabin there is a marked improvement. These images are from a LHD model, but the overall look should be similar when the car is launched in Thailand. The centre stack in the current Camry looked and felt like a cheap Chinese Hi-Fi unit.

In the current Camry the buttons felt nasty to push, and overall it didn't look great. And now that Toyota Thailand is dipping into the Camry parts bin and using the steering wheel in everything from the Altis to the Hilux Vigo Champ, the 2012 Camry needed a new one.

Again, the interior is not exciting, but it will be a quiet and comfortable place to be.

It remains to be seen if the Thai market 2012 Camry will get this neat stitching on the dash.

As far as the technical details, the new 2012 Camry is listed with a 2.5 litre, 4-cylinder unit. For Thailand we can also expect a 2.0 litre option to help the 2012 Camry achieve a competitive base model price point. And, for the aspirational model, there will be the 3.5 litre V6 that nobody will buy. Then there will be the Hybrid version, but the Thai Government are doing their best to keep fuel prices down and encourage people to not pay too much attention to consumption figures. Besides, those with a conscious about the environment might find it better appeased with the more fuel efficient, and cheaper Prius, currently on sale in Thailand for around 1.2 million baht, or the price of an entry level Camry.

So, another uninspiring car from Toyota. But, for some reason, I like it. There are more images available below, and we'll be sure to bring more details of the 2012 Camry when we have them.
